5 Reviews on “Sazan”
I don’t post negative reviews about anything, but in this case, I simply need to share some facts. I always advise contacting the restaurant, but I know this restaurant doesn’t care. So this is a PSA for those who don’t enjoy being treated badly while spending a lot of money.
I have been here twice. Once in 2019 and once recently. The food is fine and the owners are Japanese.
Both times i walked away feeling depressed, but this last time, also angry.
The first time, I sat at the bar and the people tried to convince me not to because they didn’t believe that we actually liked real Japanese food. The restaurant was like a funeral and the employees glared at us during our entire meal.
I returned recently with my mom and two kids ages 7 and 9 to give it another try.
They now have two large signs at the door that say that children under five are not allowed. Even though my kids are not under 5, I should have turned around and left.
Before we could enter, an employee stopped us and asked my children’s ages. Again, I don’t know why I didn’t just leave.
Again.. the atmosphere was that of a wake. Apparently speaking is also not allowed. We whispered during the entire meal.
$180 later, we all
walked out feeling guilty for existing.
I have given up on finding a delicious and authentic Japanese restaurant in Westchester county and yes I have tried them all.
I’ll stick to Sushi Mikes where I know the fish is excellent and I won’t be treated badly.
First time and upon entering i saw a family get rejected because they had a service dog. Also, no children under 6 allowed..very strange. Onto the meal…The appetizers were nothing special. Had the tempura shrimp, fried squid and mixed seafood w/ soybean sauce. I found the squid and octupus hard and chewy. The sushi and sashimi combos on the other hand were very good and the fish was fresh. It was a bit pricy but the overall good quality.
Food is very good. But the waitress/hostess is very rude and arrogant. She always gets the order incorrect as well. Then gets mad at customer. I’ve seen this same review by others saying same thing about this women and the owner should do something about it. It just isn’t necessary to have rude servers at such a great restaurant. I also witness her telling people they are closed at 1:30 for lunch when the owner is not there. I will not spend more money for terrible attitude from waitress any longer. I don’t think other will either.
Authentic Japanese cuisine at the highest level of execution. The omakase is an amazing journey through exquisite dishes. The quality of the fish selection is outstanding and the preparations are excellent! Sazan is owner operated and the service is respectful.
This is the most authentic Japanese restaurant in the area, period. Truly fresh fish, homemade tofu, sea eel and a variety of dishes I’ve never seen anywhere in NY. If you come here, let go of your American expectations and embrace real Japanese culture. I’m a mom, but know that it’s common for restaurants in Japan to exclude small children to create a peaceful dining space for others. So, the comments below is cultural ignorance, frankly. If you want to eat with your kids, there are plenty of lower quality options walking distance away.
