5 Reviews on “Hickory s BBQ Grill”
Food: 2/5
Service/Atmosphere: 5/5
We returned to this restaurant after a 15-year hiatus, this time bringing my wife and father, both first-timers. Having previously enjoyed the BBQ here, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, today’s visit was somewhat disappointing.
Our server, Alyce (if I recall correctly), was exceptional and truly deserves a position in a more upscale venue where her skills could be better rewarded. However, the food did not live up to past memories. I ordered a three-meat combo featuring rotisserie chicken, pulled pork, and ribs. Those looking for tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs will find themselves wanting here, as the ribs were tough enough to require a fork and knife to cut through. The flavor seemed reminiscent of last week’s leftovers.
While the pulled pork was decent in flavor, its temperature contrasted sharply with the blazing hot chicken, suggesting my pork might have been hastily reheated in a microwave; the exterior was lukewarm, yet the interior remained cold, as though straight from the fridge. Even the fries appeared to have been microwaved. (The frequent slamming of microwave oven doors seemed to confirm this, as we were seated close to the kitchen.)
Lastly, the dish labeled as “cornbread” was a disappointment. It lacked any discernible cornmeal and resembled more of a Little Debbie or school cafeteria style spice cake topped with butter and maple syrup than any cornbread I’m familiar with. This was certainly not what we expected. (No corn to be found.)
Overall, the superb service could not compensate for the lackluster meal, making our long-anticipated return underwhelming.
My wife and I had dinner here last night. Big Fan of BBQ, but was a total letdown. My wife had the fish fry, which came out burned and very dry. I had the 3 meat meal, which included pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. Could tell, just by looking at it, when waitress put it on the table that it was pre frozen. The meat was tough and none of the food had any flavor. Was a terrible experience for a 55 dollar dinner. The waitress was very nice. Will never return.
Great BBQ place the brisket is my fav, melts in your mouth! Don’t forget to try the fried cheese curds
We finally got the chance to dine here after years of smelling the smoker. I had the ribs and my wife had the steak. They were both delicious! Our server was great. Nice selection of food and beverages. Even has a decent kids menu. The ambience is nice. Lots to look at while waiting for the food, which didn’t take long. Looking forward to the next visit with family and friends.
We tried to give this place another chance since the first time was so bad, this time was no better. The people were friendly and the building was nice but the food was terrible again. Cold, flavorless and the mac and cheese was rotten. We asked if it was made with some weird cheese or something and the server told us it was regular, spoiled for sure you could smell it. Will not be back for a 3rd disappointment. If you think this is good BBQ I feel sorry for you.
