I love to shop at Food City. The employees are always friendly. They will help you take your groceries to your car. They have a big hot bar for quick gets. They also have a wonderful make it your self salad bar at a very reasonable price. Along with a Greek, taco, fruit and soup bar. The store is always clean. They have a Starbucks inside along with a floral shop.
I’ve been shopping here for a while and I’ve been holding off on posting this review, hoping that it would get better but it hasn’t. Checking out at the store is the worst experience every single time. If you go through self check out and you need an age verification, you might as well just stand there for 15 minutes while they laugh amongst themselves and just don’t seem to know that you’re waiting for them. You can press the call attendant button but nobody shows up they’ll look at you, but they won’t come over so I decided to start going through the actual check out that has a cashier but boy that’s a really painful experience. I don’t really know what’s going on with the cashiers it’s like being in twilight zone or something. The last time I went through an actual cashier she had a cough, so she just completely abandoned. Checking me out and walked across the store. I guess so she could cough over there, but I ended up being in that line. I’m not even kidding you for about 25 minutes. it’s painful the cashiers need extreme training in professionalism. Every other department has amazing employees. The front end is horrible. I actually stopped shopping there so much because of it.
I noticed something on my way to the checkouts, checked out and talk to the four supervisor who was very arrogant. After I talk to her on my way out she walked over to three other managers, an older male and older female with glasses and look like a pullover card again, and a younger man in a black shirt. I stated I’m still here if you want to talk about it, but all of them refused.
The issue was a fire code violation, at register to they had a shopping trolley with the closed sign wrapped around it. This was the only register like that as the other ones were open or just had the sign pulled across. I let the force supervisor know that it was a fire code violation. She said this is what I was told to do. I told her she didn’t want to correct it I’m going to take a picture and send it to the fire marshal and she can talk to him about it. Said do whatever you want to do and a very demeaning and arrogant tone.
I posted a picture with this review, and I’ll even give you the statute:
Alabama fire code chapter 10, article 1, section 10.2
It shall be unlawful for any person to block or alter any exit or way of egress in any existing building except a private residence without the authorization from the fire chief.
it is illegal to block or alter an exit or way of egress in any existing building without authorization, except in a private residence. Means of egress must be kept free of obstructions in case of fire or other emergency. For example, using wheeled carts in corridors is not allowed unless the items are in continuous use by staff. Staff must use and move items in corridors at least once every 30 minutes, or the items are considered to have been left or stored in the corridor.
So at this point I think the dismissal of your for supervisor that I spoke to at the time on my receipts March 19th 2024 at 1:01 p.m. for violation of the law, and the three managers that she spoke to that waved me on probably need a suspension or termination for allowing the law to be broken.
If I dig even further I’m sure I can find an Americans with disabilities right violation, and let the US department of Justice get involved too.
Someone needs to contact me
In these tough times prices are reasonable at Food City. Their meat and seafood department is really good! My daughter loves the Hawaiian roll ham and cheese sandwiches to take to school. Very convenient!
I usually love this location, because I can get incredible deals and fresh foods. However, the last couple of times I’ve been here, my groceries have been destroyed during checking out. I always buy eggs in bulk, and the last couple of times they’ve been broken because of how they’ve been handled when getting bagged. I’ve watched the baggers toss them into bags and carelessly slide them roughly across the counter. Not to mention how roughly they’re out into the cart. Same as bread and other delicate items. What time in the check out lanes have gotten worse as well. I can understand only having a couple check outs open during the earlier morning hours, but noon and later there needs to be more open. I don’t mind using a self check out if I only have a handful of items, but when I have a cart of items I’m not going to do so. I hope next time service is better, if not, I may be looking into a new store that has better service to its customers.
