Location: Alright, let’s talk about Publix in Downtown Tuscaloosa, AL. It’s right there in the heart of things, which is super convenient. If you’re living nearby or you’re a student at the University of Alabama, you’ve got yourself a grocery store within arm’s reach.

Parking: Now, here’s a big plus – they’ve got a humongous parking lot right upfront. Finding parking at some grocery stores can be a bit of a treasure hunt, but not at Publix. That’s a definite win.

Food: When it comes to food, Publix plays in the big leagues. They’ve got a smorgasbord of options – Deli, Produce, Bakery, and Grocery items. It’s like a food lover’s paradise.

Price: But here’s where it might make you wince a bit. Publix isn’t exactly the bargain bin of grocery stores. If you’re watching your pennies, you might want to explore other options in town.

Quality of Food: Now, let’s talk taste. People say Publix holds its own in the quality department. It’s been compared to Fresh Market and Sprout, so you’re not skimping on taste.

Staff: Alright, now for the not-so-great part. Brace yourself because the folks at the deli aren’t exactly winning awards for customer service. Some have described them as a bit on the rude and unhelpful side. Not exactly what you want when you’re just trying to snag some deli meats for your sandwiches. The older African American dude behind the hot bar was rude and aggressive.

Wait Time for Food: And speaking of the deli, if you’re in a hurry, you might want to think twice. It’s not exactly a speed demon over there, and the employees might not be the cheeriest bunch you’ve ever met.

Environment: On a positive note, the store itself is pretty spick and span. It’s organized and clean, so you won’t have to navigate through a grocery store maze to find what you need.

Overall Impression: So, here’s the deal. Publix has a lot going for it – location, a foodie’s dream selection, and plenty of parking. But then there’s the not-so-friendly deli staff and the wait times that might test your patience. If you’ve got a budget to stick to or you’re looking for a place with better service, you might want to scout around a bit before settling on Publix.

This Publix is a hit or miss, the consistency of having items in stock here is pretty random. Half of the time you find what you are looking for and the other half of the time you won’t find it because it is out of stock. I guess the university students deplete some items and whoever does the inventory here can’t keep up with the demand. Moreover, sometimes you won’t even be able to park your car because the parking lot of this Publix gets shut down because of some silly over rated game at the stadium. If you want or expect more consistency when shopping at Publix I recommend you rather go to the store located at North Port.

Update 6FEB24: They’re doing better in the bakery. Added a star.

Perfect for the college student that doesn’t know any better. Need supplies for jello shots? This place has you covered. For anyone else, you’d be better off visiting the ones up North in Northport or on Rice Mine. The University Publix burns their bread and a lot of products on the shelves are past their “sell by” date. They know their target audience, unfortunately.

I asked several Bama students & residents, ” who has the best selection of imported & domestic beer?” About 90% of them said Publix on University Blvd. I was surprised at the selection choices, but they didn’t have ” New Castle “beer products.
