I had a wonderful experience at the Northeastern Chinese restaurant, where I tasted a variety of dishes from the region. The Japanese braised tofu was soft and flavorful, with a rich sauce that complemented the rice. The red hot pepper sauce beef was spicy and tender, with a hint of sweetness and vinegar. The fish with tofu was a hearty dish, with a crispy skin and a smooth texture. The pumpkin fried was a pleasant surprise, with a crunchy exterior and a sweet and creamy interior. The chicken crispy fried in small pieces with red spices was a delight, with a crispy coating and a juicy meat. The squid fried was also delicious, with a chewy texture and a savory seasoning. Everything was top of the level, and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves authentic Chinese cuisine.

I tried a few good dishes but disappointed with their belly pork (红烧肉). Food served within minutes upon ordering. Nice dumpling and they served good vinegar!!

Is this the best Chinese food I’ve ever had? No. Is it the best I’ve had since moving to the Capital district from Queens? Yes.

The food was quite good, except it was much too salty, and very oily. As you can see from the pic, the double cooked pork was sitting in a pool of oil.

Also, don’t expect your food to come all at once, or even within 5 minutes of each other. We waited 35 minutes for our first dish, Ma Po Tofu. Meanwhile, people at other tables, who were seated after us, had already gotten some of their food. We waited a good 12 minutes for the next dish, twice cooked pork, to arrive. The next table meanwhile had four dishes of food on their table, although they too were seated after us. So although all the wait staff was very nice, I really do wonder if there is some subtle favoritism to Chinese patrons, as mentioned in other reviews.

That being said, I’d return here, but I’m also continuing my search for my “go to” Chinese restaurant.

This Chinese Northern Eastern style restaurant is generally rated 4.5 stars, and being in Albany bumps it up to 5 stars.

    Must-try: five-color Chinese salad (五彩大拉皮)

Recommendation: fried eggplant with minced pork (肉沫茄子) and the stir-fried taro with sugar coat (翻沙芋头).

Food: I’ve visited twice and tried the five-color Chinese salad, fried eggplant with minced pork, stir-fried taro with sugar coat, stewed baby chicken with Chinese mushrooms (小鸡炖蘑菇), and stewed pork bones with bean sauce (酱大骨). The five color salad is a delightful mix of mung bean noodles, vegetables, and a standout sauce. The “mino” (a traditional Chinese raincoat makes out of straw) eggplant dish showcases the chef’s skill, with the eggplant sliced thinly and connected. The sugar-coated taro was surprisingly good, tastier than the candied version. While the stewed pork bones with bean sauce and stewed baby chicken were decent, the pork bones are not leg bones and the chicken portion in the soup was small.

Note: They offer a discount for cash payments.

Parking: free parking in the plaza parking lot.

Normally, I try to take pictures of the food to show y’all how awesome it is. But on occasion, it’s so good that I completely forget to and that’s what happened here lol. I tried to at least get a corner of my plate that I hadn’t touched, but all of the other food was devoured before it occurred to me. This place is authentic, with a menu that can be slightly overwhelming, but without disappointment for anything you order basically. The guy who waited on us was super friendly and provided great service. The atmosphere was great, and I’ll be sure to put this place into my frequent rotation. The picture that I was able to get was of the crispy spicy squid. We also ordered the house fried rice, the whole croaker, panfried dumplings, and pork tenderloins. All of it was delicious!
