Have lived in the neighborhood for years and finally checked this place out. Wish we had sooner. Went on Sunday night for dinner date and it was perfect! Food, ambiance, and service was great. Server recommended a nice glass of white wine that would go with my entree. We got the swordfish it was so delicious and the lemon potatoes with it. We also got the halloumi fries and some spreads to start. We will be back.
Beautiful restaurant, very bright, neatly arranged. Service was great and so was the food.
My favorite were the steamed mussels, the grilled octopus and the calamari, so soft and tender!
Highly recommended!
I’ve mixed feelings over the review. Our seating is excellent, and our server attentive. Food wise, it could be that it being a Sunday and / or they are without their usual chef, I don’t know. Our preferred option for whole fish, Fagri is not available, which leaves us with Sea bass and Dorado Royale. We opted for Dorado. The fish is firm / rather dry. Nonetheless it being the more expensive fish on our order, we finished it. The Santorini prawns is a let down. The fries / roasted vegetables side – give it a miss. We enjoyed the pita bread; the spreads are ok. I’ve read the other star reviews and thought that our experience could be a one-off, hence the 4-star instead of 3-star.
I like grilled calamari and octopus. The food came out a little late, and the service was nice, but somehow, I felt rushed. My friends loved the lamb ribs; we liked the salad, too.
We schlepped over to here during a snow squall, and while the food wasn’t quite good enough to justify doing that again by choice, I’m not totally mad I did.
The Shieftalia was succulent and tasty. And the 600g of roasted Branzino will satisfy even the most metrically challenged American in terms of tender fish and lemony flavor. Simple, unpretentious Greek/Cypriot fare without all the pricey bells and whistles one finds in Manhattan–THAT’S the reason to come to Astoria.
Also that grilled pita and white bean dip is on point.
