Lovely place for breakfast! There is a lilting Mexican music playing while the host and hostess go about serving their guests, all with a smile. Food is simple but tasty. Priced reasonably, you cannot go wrong ordering any one of their dishes.
Tea is served as well as coffee and soft drinks.
Nice decent tables and chairs. Good ambience.

A pleasant surprise. We were looking for a brunch spot big enough for 3 plus a stroller in the area, and we came across this restaurant searching google. The reviews immediately had us driving that direction. They accommodated us by kindly asking people who just sat down before us, if they can move us around a bit, in which they did. We had to try the octopus tostadas as per a previous review, and they in fact were a hit. I had the green chilaquiles with Al pastor meat and it was delicious. All of their food was flavorful and the staff is so nice. We’re looking forward to going back and trying different dishes. Definitely a repeat in the area.

I’m glad we decided on this small cafe for our lowkey way of celebrating Cinco de Mayo. The food is authentic Mexican, the menu is simple, and everything we tried was delicious. The chicken quesadilla(not what you’re used to from American restaurants) was great, the kids liked it. The tamales were some of the best I’ve had and the empanadas, also not what I’m used to, were baked fluffy and super tasty. The smoothies, though limited in options, were solid. I would like to see the smoothie flavors expanded a bit. The service was very attentive and courteous. I look forward to our next visit here to try more stuff on the menu!

I was thinking of getting a standard brunch menu but went for special menu of the day. I had a cheese tamale (delicious 😋) and my friend had seafood soup (photo). The soup was absolutely amazing! So much seafood that we couldn’t see the soup. (By the way a salmon fillet was hiding under the shrimps.) The service was very quick and perfect for busy lunch hours.

Cafe Xochimilco is a hidden gem situated on the path between LIC and Astoria, but this halfway point is more of a destination than it seems. The owner cooks with love and attends to everyone with the same care, pumping out excellent dishes well worth stopping in for. Fresh, handmade corn tortillas are the norm, cafe de olla is spiced to perfection, and the specials help you remember why it’s called that. If you want the best Mexican food in the area, this is the place to go.
