Ambiance (4/5): I loved the energy of the staff and the neighborhood regulars that were here. The staff and guests knew each other’s names and they’d joke around and catchup so it felt welcoming! The inside does not allow for dining nor does it have a public restroom for guests. It feels like a deli but smaller.
Service (5/5): The walls are lined with an extensive menu. There was 2 cooks and a staff member at the register. There was 3 orders ahead of me and my empanada was ready within 5min!
Food (Overall 5/5): The oxtail empanada was just under $7. It came out freshly cooked and the inside was stuffed with a good portion of seasoned oxtail that was a tiny bit spicy, juicy, and full of flavor! The mixture did not contain much fatty pieces. The empanada had a nice crunch, although I was hoping for a more doughy texture which it was not. Definitely plan on coming back to try their platters and jerk chicken.
Badass food! Worth the wait! Clean hands and place smell great when walked in!
Not only the dude behind the cashier is so kind and humorous, but he’s also passionate about food. The oxtail sandwich with coco bread is just heaven. The sorrel drink he recommends is a must! I personally love Jamaican / carribean food and this place does not disappoint. YOU HAVE TO GO!
I personally thought the food was good. But BE CAREFUL. If you choose one of the sandwiches here (we got jerk chicken and oxtail) there may be BONES chopped up in the meat (about the length of a pinky nail)! We had quite a few in our sandwiches. There is no disclaimer on the menu regarding this, but it could be a choking hazard so please be careful.
We got :
– 2x oxtail philly cheesesteak
– sweet potato fries
– 6 chicken wings w/ BBQ sauce
And a total of 59$ with drinks
Overall good, chicken wings were mid, lots of fat
