5 Reviews on “Red Hook Lobster Pound”
Overall I thought DJs was just ok. Not sure if I would go back, especially for what everything cost.
Vibe: The vibe is casual, and almost a bit cold. We sat outside, which was nice, but it is on a busy road. Free parking in the back is a plus.
Service: This was the highlight. The staff was super friendly and helpful.
Food: The food in my opinion was hit and miss. I didn’t think there was anything so fabulous that I had to go back and have. The onion rings were the best part and I’d give them a solid 4. ($6.00) The chipotle sauce was a nice compliment to the rings.
I’d give the Ipswich Clams basket a 3. ($29.00) The breading on the clams was nice and light, but we had several clams with sand grit. The french fries were ok, a bit cold, bland and not crispy. The coleslaw was the best part of the basket.
And finally I’d give the Cold Lobster Roll a 3 as well.($24.00) It was a bit heavy on the mayonnaise and I felt was loaded with the rubbery lobster claw tips.
Was it horrible, no. Expensive, yes. Would I go back, probably not.
We had the cold double Lobster rolls and the sweet potato fries. The Lobster rolls were delicious and the fries came with a maple aioli sauce that was so tasty. There are plenty of outdoor tables with umbrellas spaced far apart and off street parking in the back. We will definitely go back.
Stopped in for my first time at this location for lunch. I’ve been to some of the other locations and they are significantly smaller. This location had ample parking and tables in side and outside which is a bonus being right across from the harbor.
My wife and I split an order of the clams with jalapeños which came in a delicious spicy broth and an order of Thai calamari. One of my favorite non traditional calamari and this was one of the best versions I’ve had. Perfect crispy but still tender.
We also order some coconut shrimp that came with an order of fries and a shrimp scampi roll. I know they are famous for their lobster rolls, but do not sleep on the shrimp scampi roll. Delicious!!!!
And great news They also mentioned that this year they would be staying open on the weekends during the winter where they have closed in years past.
The lobster roll was great- buttery roll, fresh lobster. The kungpow calamari was good- it’s not really kungpow in the traditional sense, just sweet chili sauce over fried calamari.
We sat outside and wiped the table ourselves because it was dirty, the inside was really nice though!
Friend and I ate there, we shared all the items ordered. Both of us got sick – gastric and low grade fever…..food didn’t even taste that great. Didn’t taste bad, just nothing special. We ordered variety of items. Over priced for quality and quantity, and didn’t appreciate getting sick from it either. Go to drink and sit outside, pass on eating there.
