Let me tell you about my most favorite meal in nyc in a long while. I originally noticed this place by running past it on a warm summer day. The food atop each table looked mouthwatering and I knew I had to try it.
After meeting someone From Serbia, and then realizing Selo is Serbian/croation/Mediterranean food, I know it was fate. We visited Selo on 11/14. There were two other tables sitting when we came around 5:45pm. The lighting dim, with Romanian/Serbian inspired decor in deep yellow/orange color. Our server was from Montenegro, just to the left of Belgrade. Absolutely amazing service from the second we walked in. We ordered a Serbian beer and I a hot water as I always do. For appetizers, we tried the charcuterie, bruschetta, and the octopus. The meat and cheeses BLEW ME AWAY. I still look forward to tasting this dish again. It was incredible, all imported and full of character in each bite. I don’t eat octopus but my sister really enjoyed the octopus. The bruschetta was pretty straight forward and delicious. very fresh. We had the traditional Serbian cucumber and tomatoe salad paired with soup for one entree. I got the nocchi, and we also tried the stuffed pepper in mashed potato’s. Every plate was different and just as delicious as the next. They all tastes home made/made with love. It seemed like a family business. The owner mentioned every Saturday is Serbian night and we should come as many Montenegros also join that evening for traditional music and dancing. The absolutely beautiful desert consisted of euro cream (you can get Nutella also) crepes and jam crepes. We originally got them to go for our mom, but had to try them, and could not stop eating them. SOOOO GOOOD. Crepes or “pancakes” in Serbian culture are huge, when I tell you they go crazy over them…. And I see why. All in all I really look forward to coming back to Selo. You should absolutely stop by for an incredible meal.
A lovely Croatian restaurant!
The Istrian gnocchi was incredibly indulgent. Soft and chewy gnocchi bathed in luxurious cheese.
The burek was so light and crispy, baked to a perfect golden brown with creamy cheese filling.
The cevapi was meaty and flavorful. I couldn’t get enough of them!
The Zito cake was surprisingly good. Not overly sweet, nutty, and creamy. Really enjoyed its sticky, soft, and silky mouthfeel!
Great experience! The food hits home, staff is very nice and attentive. Can’t wait to go back for a live music night! Bravo Elvis and Suzy! 🥰
There are times when you are missing home, and then you find this place, where they serve Balkan food and they have wine form your country, and then everything comes to place. The food was delicious, the service was awesome and then there was live music that reminds you of your youth. We will definitely be visiting again, this was not only food for your belly, but also food for your soul.
Came for lunch. Had the veal lunch pasta which my hubby LOVED. I had the Istrian gnocchi which was homemade melty cheesy goodness. the Cheese stuffed red peppers were good and a little more expensive than i would have liked. Also had the Balkan mule with the pear brandy. Would love to return to have the mixed meat platter.
