Unfortunately, have to revise my review.

Went in today to grab a few steaks, waited at the butcher counter for about 10 minutes, nobody helping customers. Saw associates walking around in the butcher area talking to each other, but not helping customers. Continued waiting with two other customers, only for all three of us to walk off because we got tired of nobody even acknowledging our existence.

Fortunately, Publix and bilo aren’t far away.

Ingles is a very nice grocery store. Their prices tend to be higher than other stores in the area, but they have great quality foods in general. They don’t always have the brands of certain items we normally buy, but they come through when we need a supplemental shop.

No Ingles is great but this is one of the worst. Customer service is hard to find and few people know the inventory. Their self checkouts crash for silly reasons and so take more time to use. When I complained recently and asked why other stores don’t have this many problems I was told by a manager, under his breath and I’m paraphrasing, just not to bother shopping there! Nice.

Ingles is my go-to grocer wherever I live, and I love supporting local (NC owned) businesses. They have great prices on some things which seems to be made happen by lots of other items being very overpriced. I use the low-priced stuff so I’m happy, and all their stores tend to be clean and have nice people working there. My pet peeve is that they’re corporate-micro-managed, with the same small shelf space for lots of things which sell out in hours while slower-moving items get lots of space and are always full. All the Ingles are like this, and if you know the floor layout of one you know them all.

Except this location on 276 above Traveler’s Rest near Marietta which seems to be mismanaged- sometimes badly. It’s clean but if you want service from the deli or hot bar you may find a wait and not-so-friendly staff. I’ve seen there be 5 people working in the area with only one serving customers while a dozen of us waited, and the Manager and Assistant manager were standing around ten feet away paying no attention to us or their employees. Some of them have a habitof darting into the cooler the moment they see a customer approach the Deli or Hot Bar. The food there is sometimes bordering on awful or old (Hint: Their Chinese section is always stale). Usually they have only green beans and mashed potatoes for vegetables there leaving sometimes old macaroni and cheese for another side. Their fried chicken is good if it’s not old and cold. Everything else is a day-to-day gamble.

The self-checkouts no longer take cash, and more than a few times I’ve seen one or two check-outs open with ten+ people waiting in line for each. Worse for me is that I have some disabilities with walking and usually the open checkouts are on only one side making me walk an extra 60 painful steps there and 60 more back to where my car is parked. Again the Management can see all this (and does) but they don’t seem to care. Nor do they seem to motivate any employees, some of who are nice and efficient by their own volition while many seem to hardly care about you and treat you as if you’re disturbing them when you want assistance as they mostly stand around idle.

Remember that I love Ingles in general, but not this store, and I’ve shopped many of them for many years so I know what they can be and how they work. Because of the poor management I’d say give this store a pass; the only reason I go there is that it’s by far the closest grocery store and cheap for what I buy. The Corporate office needs to stop micro-managing things and give the store managers more leeway to work with their local customer base as well as holding them more responsible for what they do. And bring back the cash self-checkouts.

Great service, friendly people, excellent for out of towners just trying to settle a family members affairs.
